Well, I officially have a child in school now. Yikes. Emily started school this week, and she was so excited!! Doesn't she look so grown up?! I cannot describe the feelings the were going through me as I watched her file into her classroom (and yes, I cried). She, however, hardly looked back! Emily was so ready and so excited to be going to school. Her teacher(s) are very nice and already art class is her favorite thing. She has a new friend every day (well, the two days that she's been, so we're 2 for 2) and gets to eat lunch there with the other kids which is always fun. But very loud, she says.
I didn't think having her at school would make things much easier at home--I even wondered if it would be harder since she's such a big helper--but it has been a bit, easier I mean. I only have two heads to keep track of if we go anywhere, and it is actually a little easier to gear things toward the younger ones instead of bouncing between the older and younger mindsets. I didn't realize how wearing that was. We are all excited to go pick her up at the end of the day, however.
Emily's favorite things:
1) ice cream, watermelon
2) red, pink and purple colors
3) anything to do with art
4) bbq pork and rice, corn and peas
5) Strawberry Shortcake
6) Horses and cats
7) books, she's so close to reading all by herself!
8) School!
9) My Little Pony
10) Puzzles

Ack, she's getting so big already! I must continue to brainwash her into thinking I am cool before it is too late!
And do all the kids have these roller backpacks these days? I think that is brilliant. My shoulder STILL pops out from my 5th and 6th grade one-shoulder bag episodes. Or maybe it's because of the behemoth of a purse I insist on carrying around these days...
Anyway, congrats on making it through her first week. I applaud you. They say the hardest part of love is letting go... and you did it. Well, as much as you had to, for now. And that's enough.
Glad you remembered to take a picture. Nothing like a first day of school picture! I wouldn't mind sending Ben off to school :)
Once they start school, you realize how short those first 5 years really are! Kristen is in 4th grade and Nick in 2nd. Ben starts my school this year. It is much easier to have less people around to manage. Very cute pictures! Emily is so adorable! All your girls are!
It can't be possible that three of our precious, great-granddaughters are all starting Kindergarten this year. Emily is beautiful, especially her smile of anticipation. We hope Kiah in Pittsburgh and Ayden in Ann Arbor get off to a wonderful start, too. We pray for their protection from harm, evil and lies as well as their eagerness to learn, explore and grow. You great parents make the difference. Love, G and G D.
WOW! She does look so grown up! Reminds me of the picture of John and I standing together with our back packs on my first day of kindergarten in Colorado. My how time flies!
